"I got to get something for my people"

The following news story is a classic example of why the government should never be allowed to spend any of our money:

The subject of this article is an Illinois state grant program to aide after school activates for inner city children. Of course in reality the money does not go to help children it winds up in the pockets of politicians, and their friends.

These 2 quotes need no explanation:

The veteran lawmaker recently said that not every organization he helped abused the grants. "Even though everybody might not get it right, that's no reason to kill a program that we have to have," he said.

Hendon said he will fight to restore the grants to keep children busy after school. If lawmakers are going to raise the state income tax, then "I got to get something for my people," he said.
